Alonzo E. Jordan never had a chance to reach 100 years old today. Instead, he sacrificed his life for our freedom.

He was born on May 9, 1917 in Wisconsin. His parents were also both born in Wisconsin. His father's parents were from Germany, where Alonzo would travel towards in unexpected circumstances at age 27. His father was a laborer and later a truck driver. He had two younger brothers and a younger sister. Before joining the Army, Alonzo had completed a grammar school level education and worked as a farm hand.

Alonzo enlisted in November 30, 1942 and became a private in the 325th Glider Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division.

The 325th was created prior to Pvt. Jordan's enlistment, so he may have joined later as a replacement. We don't know which of the 325th actions he was involved with, but it could have included glider landings Normandy as part of D-Day, and Belgium as part of Operation Market Garden. He was almost certainly with the 325th by the time it took part in the Battle of the Bulge.

Pvt. Jordan's died of wounds on February 2, 1945, Whether this was related to a wound from the Battle of the Bulge or later action around Holzheim, Belgium is unknown.

His remains were returned to be buried at Oak Hill Cemetery, Watertown, Wisconsin.

Thank you Alonzo for your sacrifice. Let's Earn It for Alonzo.
